With all of the gyms still closed, going for a walk or a run is the easiest way to burn some calories and stay active. Not to mention it is a great excuse to get outside and get some fresh air. Here are some of our favorite things to listen to that will keep you entertained during your run. Whether you like music, podcasts, or audiobooks, there’s something here for you!

  1. Music: BPM Playlists on Spotify

These playlists are probably best for runners, though walkers can enjoy them, too. Not many people realize that Spotify has playlists organized by the tempo of the beats (BPM or “Beats Per Minute”). This means that you can choose which playlist matches your speed and match your stride to the beat of the music. Just search “BPM” and go to “Playlists” and you will find playlists of all tempos and genres to pick from. It might take you a few tries to find the right speed, but once you have it, you will be all set to run as long as you want. (Spotify is a paid streaming service but is also available for free with a few ads).

  2. Podcasts: Serial, Unlocking Us, Reply All

There is such a wide variety of podcasts that everyone can find a show that is right for them. From highly-produced investigative storytelling like Serial, soul-searching conversations with Brene Brown on Unlocking Us, to light-hearted stories about the internet like Reply All, there is bound to be a show that will keep you hooked for your whole walk. Whether you are looking for a captivating story or a conversation between friends, there are plenty of podcasts to choose from. If you are not sure where to start, try browsing the podcast charts of a genre you think would be interesting, or texting a friend for a recommendation.

  3. Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a great way to increase the amount of books you are reading, especially if you are busy. Listening to an audiobook on a run is a great way to multi-task. Learn about a new subject or listen to a captivating story. The app “Overdrive” will lend you audiobooks for free with a verified library card, or you can purchase a monthly subscription to platforms like Audible or Scribd.

Hopefully these suggestions will help keep you entertained on your next walk or run. If you have any suggestions of music, podcasts, or audiobooks you’ve been listening too on a run, leave us a comment on our latest instagram post!
